Details of where and when Forums will be held will be posted here as soon as information becomes available.
School and Industry Leaders’ Forums will bring school and industry/business leaders together on a local level to share ideas and plan better ways of working together to develop relevant and locally specific career education programmes in schools.
The Forums will support implementation of effective career education and services in schools by providing opportunities for school principals, career advisers, business and industry representatives and other key stakeholders to:
- discuss local job prospects, local skill needs and shortages, local career information and vocational learning activities, and local career pathways;
- discuss ‘good practice’ examples of links between local schools and business/industry and workshop practical ideas about how these successes could be replicated;
- identify ways to assist local businesses to participate in local career development activities such as Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), School-based New Apprenticeships (SBNAs), mentoring programmes for young people; Industry scholarships for career advisers; Vocational Education and Training (VET) in schools, the Adopt a School Programme and State/Territory and/or Australian Government vocational learning programmes;
- strengthen linkages between schools, industry/business and Local Community Partnerships; and
- focus on the development of action plans to stimulate and facilitate ongoing interaction between the groups represented at the forums.
Over four years, School and Industry Leaders’ Forums will be held in a variety of locations to ensure: distribution of Forums across both States/Territories and regional/metropolitan areas; the Forums complement and support other Australian Government career development initiatives; and the Career Advice Australia network is strengthened.
